The Future is Binary – At approximately 5:30 PM the Calgary Fire Department was toned out to a possible house fire on Evansmeade Cr NW. Due to the large volume of smoke and flames, the responding Captain called for a second alarm prior to their arriving on scene. The first in crew was met by a large crowd of people and two fully involved houses. The heat and flames from the involved homes were also extending to the neighbouring houses. The crews quickly confirmed that all the occupants of the houses were accounted for and had vacated their homes. The Captain quickly adopted a defensive tactic and by using large volumes of water was able to contain the majority of the damage to the originally involved houses. As a precaution a number of homes around the fire scene were evacuated. Aside from the houses directly involved in the fire and after the Fire Department ensured good air quality, the evacuees were allowed to re-enter their homes. A ruptured natural gas line delayed the final extinguishing of the house fires. At the present time a fire watch in place to ensure that any hot spots are dealt with. The investigation into the cause of the fire will begin tomorrow morning. There were no injuries or missing pets.
